A journal of life

June Gail Addy

I came into existence in a beautiful island situated off the North West Coast of South America called Trinidad. My country forms part of what we know to be the West Indies or the Caribbean. For one to appreciate or understand my country’s background, it’s imperative to know something of its history and background.

Always keep the door open-to let tomorrow in

Listen to a loving mum, who really knows the score
I have been through most of the trials of life, but never closed the door.
I’ve been through all the tough times, I’ve see it all before.
But no matter what life throws at me, I’ve never closed the door.
So I can say, just don’t give up
These problems you endure will surely pass.
And life at last will be really good once more.

Autobiography

As the mother of six children, I begin writing my life history at this time of my life and attempt to make a summary of notable events that have happened

I was born on a Monday, 28th June 1948 in Trinidad – The West Indies, in a village called Santa Flora in the County of St. Patrick. I was the third child and second daughter born to my mother: Beryl Beatrice Quarless who has six children: four boys and two girls.

They are Leslie Hamilton Jeanette Janet Pearl (Jenny), Myself – June Gail, Richard Cecil, Edison Anthony, and Robert Charles. My father’s name is John White and unfortunately for us my mother and father never married but lived together on and off as husband and wife. When I was Seven years of age they separated and I never saw him again until I was 20 (Twenty) years of age; even then it was just briefly, for 3-4 (three-four) hours and then we said goodbye as I was leaving Trinidad. I have not seen him since.

One of my regrets in life has been not having a father whilst I was growing up, but I can honestly say my mother made it up to us children for the absence of our father, although at times it was extremely hard for her. One of the first things I can remember from my childhood is visiting my grandfather Shadrack Hamilton Quarless who played his guitar for us and sang “There is a green hill far away.” This sweet hymn then became my brother Richards favourite song.

Family Tributes

Where do I start mum, how do I start. I’ve been asked by my siblings to write something for your service. I’m honestly struggling mum to express how I feel. There will never be enough words to express how I feel. They have a saying that time heals. I’m afraid at this present moment I can’t ever see this happening.

CHRISTOPHER QUARLESSNÉE ADDY

Of all the things I was looking forward to doing this year with you, writing a tribute to you, since you’ve sadly and unexpectedly passed away, is something that begs disbelief and complete and utter sadness. Mum, why did you leave us like this?

TRACEY JARVISNÉE ADDY

Mum, you gave life to six of us — each of us unique, yet all of us bound by the same unshakable foundation of your love. As your twin children, we had the gift of growing up not just side by side with each other but always wrapped in the warmth of your care and guidance - we individually and collectively just like our siblings shared special moments and had strong bonds with you that went deep.

"My mum!”

JASON EDWARD LAWRENCENÉE ADDY

At heart, a profound and unwavering affection that gives freely without any expectations of return or conditions. A love that remains steadfast regardless of the other person's behaviour, flaws, or circumstances. A pure form of love, where the focus is entirely on the well-being and happiness of the other person, without any personal gain or strings attached, etc...
These words sum up my mother's core Essence imo. My Heart Is Broken Mum.
Rest Easy till We Meet Again.
Shalom Mum.
